We pride ourselves on having created a friendly and safe environment in which to practice the art of Jujutsu. The Uki (attacker) and Tori (defender) follow a code of respect to ensure that techniques are properly learned while minimizing the risk of injury

SAFETY
Look out for your partner. He/She is lending you their body for practice.

When throwing, be sure your partner will land on the mat. Know where you will land when thrown, be sure to protect yourself and fall toward the mat and not toward the edge.

Be aware of those around you. Collissions can be painful and potentially dangerous.

Do not force the technique. If an application feels wrong, DON'T MAKE IT WORK! A forced throw or sweep has brusied many knees and shoulders and it could result in a worse injury.

Timing and measuring distance when executing strikes improves with experience. Don't get too close too fast. Know the limits of your ability to control strikes. As an uki, don't get up until the finishing technique is done. Your head moving up while a fist is coming down will definately be painful.

Know your limits. Pushing yourself and working hard will make you better but know when to take a breather to clear your head. If you feel ill, call a Sensei, advise him that you need a few minutes rest. If you are injured, call the Sensei, move slowly and cautiously until the problem is assessed or dismissed.

Ask Sensei when you need some water, keep it to a minimum. Heavy drinking when heated workout is not advisable. Cool down after class before drinking.

RESPECT
Bow when entering or leaving Dojo

Greet Black Belts as Sensei

Treat all higher ranks with courtesy

Refrain from using profanity in the Dojo

Arrive for classes 10-15 minutes early. Latecomers should not get on the mat until the Sensei recognizes you and gives permission to step onto the mat.

When getting on or off mat, bow to the picture of the Grand Master.

Feet, body, and gi should be clean. Remove all jewelry and makeup before class begins. Minimize walking off the mat with bare feet. Slippers should be worn when walking from dressing room/ bathroom to mat.

Respond to a Sensei’s instructions or a higher ranks assistance with a "thank you" or "yes, sir". A difference in opinion on a technique should be referred to a sensei.
